Week 2 2009 Fall Soccer

Scoring Goals On and Off the Field

During the 2009 Fall Soccer Season as with all of our program, we are motivated to teach skills that will develop players on and off the field. In the hopes of doing just that, we have implemented a sportsmanship initiative where coaches on a weekly basis have the opportunity to teach a value that relates to game of soccer, but more importantly to the world we live in. The 3-5 minute teaching session (before or after a practice or game) where the value is introduced is a special one for both the individual and the team. Coaches who have used this teaching method over the course of the season have seen an increased growth in players physical skill development, ability to work together for a common goal, communication skills, preparation, and personal dedication, and the list is limitless. These skills and values translate to the soccer field, but we hope that our participants are walking walking away from our programs with more than just a win or a lose, but an understanding of how to be successful in the game of life. Understanding this, each week as a staff we introduce a sportsmanship value to the league that may ignite this teaching opportunity.

  2. I really like the variety you have in your blog. My husband plays sports and he is always talking about how he wishes his team held better respect for themselves and others in there general lives. Thanks for the great post on this.
